Commissioner of Police and Magistrate Dimapur, Nagaland Kevithuto Sophie, IPS has in an order dated 19th January 2023 informed that to ensure no untoward incidents occur during the conduct of General Election 2023, Commissioner of Police and Magistrate in the exercise of the powers conferred under section 144A of the CrPC has prohibited any person from carrying arms (firearms, machete/daos, clubs, spears, explosives, catapults or any other articles designed or adopted as weapon for offense or defense) in possession within the District of Dimapur, Chumoukedima and Niuland with immediate effect. 

He further informed that the order has been passed ex-parte due to emergent exigencies and shall remain in force till further notice.

           The Commissioner of Police also informed that to ensure measures for peaceful, free, and fair poll during the General Election, all Arms Licence holders under Dimapur, Chumoukedima, and Niuland districts to deposit their licensed Arms at the nearest Police Station without fail on or before 10th February 2023. He further informed that failure to comply with the order shall invite prosecution of the license holder under the Arms Act, 1959, and may lead to cancellation of their Arms license.
