Industries and Commerce Department Nagaland, in a press release, stated that the Government of India has introduced the Pradhan Mantri Vishwakarma Shram Samman Yojana (PM Vishwakarma Scheme), a central sector initiative aimed at offering comprehensive support to artisans and craftspeople engaged in hands-on trades. This scheme is designed to benefit those who are self-employed or looking to establish small-scale ventures in these trades. The primary objective is to enhance the lives of artisans by providing them with recognition, skill development, toolkit incentives, credit support, incentives for digital transactions, and marketing assistance.

Trades Covered: Carpenter, Cobbler (Shoesmith/Footwear), Boat Maker, Armourer, Blacksmith, Hammer and Tool Kit Maker, Locksmith, Sculptor (Idol Maker, Stone Carver, Stone Breaker), Goldsmith, Potter, Masons, Basket Mat Broom Maker/Coir Weaver, Doll & Toy Maker (Traditional), Barber, Garland Maker, Washerman (Dhobi), Tailor (Darzi) and Fishing Net Maker

Eligibility Criteria: Engagement in one of the 18 identified trades, Beneficiary's minimum age should be 18 years, Registration and benefits are restricted to one family member, Government employees, and their family members are ineligible. 'Family' includes the husband, wife, and unmarried children.

Benefits: PM Vishwakarma certificate and ID card for recognition, Skill upgradation with basic (5-7 days) and advanced skill (15 days) training, with a stipend of ₹500 per day during training, Toolkit incentives up to ₹15,000, Credit support in two tranches of ₹1 lakh each (collateral-free loans), Marketing support through quality certification, branding, promotion, e-commerce linkage, trade fairs, advertising, publicity, and other marketing activities.

Beneficiary enrollment will be conducted through Common Service Centres (CSC). Required documents include an Aadhaar Card, mobile number, bank details, and ration card.

The Ministry of MSME (Nodal Ministry), the Ministry of Skill Development & Entrepreneurship, and the Ministry of Finance Services, in collaboration with State Governments.

The PM Vishwakarma Scheme is expected to uplift the skilled artisans and craftspeople, promoting their economic well-being and preserving traditional trades.
