The Nagaland Building and Other Construction Workers’ Welfare Board
(NBOCWWB) in coordination with 89 Border Roads Task Force (BRTF), Sechü-Zubza conducted field registration of migrant workers in a programme held at Sechü- Zubza, Kohima on 8th July 2022.
Addressing the gathering, Chairman, NBOCWWB, Dr. Kekhrie Yhome said India being a welfare state, provides social security to its citizens in all walks of social life, and the Board’s job is to look after the building and construction workers of the State and also workers from other states. He emphasized the need for workers to register with the Board to avail of the benefits as their job nature is seasonal, prone to accidents, and they face risks to their lives and social exclusion. Dr. Yhome stated that the Board and BRTF will work together to register all building and other construction workers, working under BRTF.
Chief Executive Officer, NBOCWWB, T. Chubayanger informed the workers gathered that the staff and officials from the NBOCWWB will explain the schemes available to the officers of BRTF so that whenever workers are unable to understand anything about the scheme, they can approach the BRTF for any query.
AEE, BRTF, Harsh Srivastava stated that the BRTF was not aware of the schemes provided under NBOCWWB earlier, but by working together with NBOCWWB, he expressed hope that the facilities for its workers can be upgraded.
The Government of Nagaland constituted the Building and Other Construction Workers’ Welfare Board (NBOCWWB) to provide social security to this section of workers.
The Board runs five welfare schemes: Tool Grant, where all registered beneficiaries who annually renew their registration receive Rs. 1000 as assistance for the purchase of tools; Insurance coverage in case of natural and accidental deaths; Maternity Benefits; Medical
Assistance; and Education Scholarship for two (maximum) children of the beneficiary.
