The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), India has officially launched the 11th edition of its Annual Short Film Competition on Human Rights. Open to all Indian citizens regardless of age, the competition invites powerful storytelling through short films that highlight and promote human rights awareness.

First instituted in 2015, the NHRC Short Film Competition has grown into a prestigious national platform for filmmakers, students, and social activists alike. For the 2025 edition, entries are to be submitted online via Google Drive to nhreshortfilm@gmail.com by 31st August  2025.

Participants can submit short films in Hindi, English, or any Indian language with English subtitles, with the film duration limited to a minimum of 3 minutes and a maximum of 10 minutes.

The NHRC has announced attractive cash prizes for the top three films:

  • First Prize: ₹2,00,000
  • Second Prize: ₹1,50,000
  • Third Prize: ₹1,00,000

In addition to trophies and certificates, the Jury may also recommend up to four films for a ‘Certificate of Special Mention’, each accompanied by a cash award of ₹50,000.

The initiative seeks to engage a broad spectrum of creative voices to raise awareness about human rights issues and promote a culture of dignity, equality, and justice.
