The Kohima District Planning and Development Board (DPDB) convened its monthly meeting at the DPDB Hall, Kohima on 20th August 2024. The meeting was chaired by the Deputy Commissioner and Vice-Chairman of DPDB Kohima, Kumar Ramnikant, IAS, with Dr. Tseilhoutuo Rhutso, MLA and Chairman DPDB, also in attendance.
The meeting began with a review of the minutes from the previous session, followed by a discussion on the registration of societies. The registration proposal for the Sericulture Board, Nagaland, was deferred for further comments from the Sericulture department. However, the Nagaland Dart Association Kohima’s registration was approved and will be forwarded to the higher authorities. Also, the proposal for opening the new Jolly Stars Pre-school in P. Khel, Kohima, was accepted and will be forwarded to higher authority.
A significant portion of the meeting was dedicated to addressing the traffic congestion in Kohima. The Deputy Superintendent of Police (Traffic), Kohima, delivered a comprehensive PowerPoint presentation outlining the current traffic challenges and potential solutions. Key recommendations included the reconfiguration of roundabouts, implementing one-way traffic on certain stretches during peak hours, developing link roads, constructing pedestrian-friendly foot overbridges, and enforcing the draft parking policy for Kohima City 2023.
Dr. Tseilhoutuo Rhutso emphasized the need for strategic planning ahead of the upcoming Hornbill Festival, suggesting the implementation of an odd-even system for commercial vehicles and a one-way traffic system on select roads to mitigate congestion during the event.
Additional SP Kohima also highlighted the underutilization of foot overbridges in the city and suggested measures to increase their usage. He further proposed phasing out old vehicles and designating specific marketplaces for vendors to prevent roadside business activities.
The Board also welcomed six new members during the session.
The Urban Development Department was tasked with presenting an overview of their ongoing activities in the next DPDB meeting.

KOHIMA DDMA CONVENES MEETING TO ADDRESS LANDSLIDE AT DZÜDZA VILLAGE
An emergency meeting of the Kohima District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) was convened at the DPDB hall Kohima on 20th August 2024, to address the landslide on NH 29, near Dzüdza Bridge under Sechü-Zubza Kohima, which has impacted traffic and the supply of essential commodities. Deputy Commissioner (DC) Kumar Ramnikant IAS chaired the meeting, informing attendees that the SDO Civil Sechü-Zubza, along with village authorities and contractor personnel had inspected the upper reaches of the landslide area and submitted a report.
A committee, with the Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) and CEO DDMA Kohima Rhosietho Nguori NCS as its Chairman, has been formed to visit and monitor the affected area. Following the assessment, the committee will draft a plan to mitigate the occurrence of continuous landslides and submit a report for further action by higher authorities.
The meeting prioritized the need to channelize traffic, particularly for trucks carrying essential commodities, fuel, and medicines. Additionally, teams were proposed to visit stranded trucks and provide basic assistance to truckers in need.
All concerned agencies have been directed to maintain other used roads properly for commuters.
