Due to incessant rain during the past few weeks and cloud burst, a massive landslide has
occurred at Pherima Village, under Medziphema Sub Division with cutting off a portion of NH
29 road on the evening of 3 rd September 2024 around 10-10:30 p.m.
DC Chumoukedima, Polen John; ADC Chumoukedima, Kuzonyi Wideo; ADC
Medziphema James Swu along with EAC and DBs accompanied by Police personnel conducted
on-site inspection of the landslide affected area on 4th September 2024.

The 6 (Six) persons who lost their lives were: Kriesangulie (M), Samir Dutta (M), Sonhie
(F), Daju (M), Bijay (M) and Sopon Biswas (M), besides, 3 (Three) Rice Hotels were destroyed
along with 5 Trucks, 11 Light Motor Vehicles and 1 two-wheeler were damaged by the
landslide.
A total of 15 SDRF personnel were deployed for the rescue operation, besides DDMA
Chumukedima, District Administration, DEF Chumoukedima, Traffic Police Chumoukedima,
Village council, Churches, Youth and VDMA of Pherima Village also took part in the search and
rescue operation and recovered the missing corpse.
Meanwhile, the DC Chumoukedima also has also issued travel advisory notice to take
extreme precautions and to take alternative routes.
