The state foundation day of Manipur, Meghalaya, and Tripura was celebrated at Raj Bhavan, Kohima on 21st January 2025.

Speaking on the occasion, the Governor of Nagaland, La Ganesan said that on behalf of the people of Nagaland and on his own behalf, he extend warmest greetings and best wishes to the citizens of the three states.

The Governor said that the day is of great pride and reflection. It marks the establishment of these three states as distinct entities in 1972, each with its unique identity, history and contributions to our great nation. It is a day to honor the resilience, diversity and spirit of the people of Manipur, Meghalaya and Tripura who have enriched our country's cultural tapestry with their diverse traditions, art, music and festivals, said the Governor.

As we gather here at Raj Bhavan Kohima today, I am reminded of the shared history and bonds that unite the Northeastern states of India. Though our geography, languages and cultures may differ, we are all bound together by our aspirations for peace, development and progress of our states and our country. The citizens of Manipur, Meghalaya and Tripura residing in Nagaland exemplify this unity. Your contributions to the growth and progress of Nagaland have been noteworthy and for this, I extend my respect and gratitude on behalf of the people of Nagaland, the Governor said.

The Northeastern region is a jewel in India’s crown. Its vibrant communities and natural beauty have always been a source of pride for the entire nation. In recent years, the region has witnessed significant progress in infrastructure, education, healthcare and entrepreneurship. This progress has been possible because of the collective efforts of all states, including Manipur, Meghalaya and Tripura, whose people have demonstrated resilience and innovation, the Governor added.

The Governor further highlighted the role of the people from the three states who have made Nagaland their home. He said that their active participation in various fields, be it education, business, arts or social service - has strengthened the fabric of our society. They have enriched our communities and exemplified the essence of "Unity in Diversity" that defines India.

The Governor further said that as we celebrate this day let us also remember our shared responsibility towards building a brighter future for our region. The Northeastern states must continue to work together to address challenges such as connectivity, environmental sustainability and socio-economic development. Together, we can ensure that our region takes its rightful place in the national and global arena.

The Governor reiterated his heartfelt gratitude to the citizens of Manipur, Meghalaya, and Tripura residing in Nagaland for their dedication and contributions. Their efforts are a testament to the strong bonds of brotherhood and unity that exist among the people of the Northeast and that on this Foundation Day, let us reaffirm our commitment to working together for the prosperity and progress of our states, our region and our nation and hoped that the people of Manipur, Meghalaya and Tripura continue to shine brightly and inspire generations to come.

The foundation day celebration included various cultural items from the three states, which included cultural song by Maram union, Manipuri Cultural Society, Manipuri Dance by, Nabarum Laishram and Zeme and Zeliang Hoho.

Speech on behalf of Manipur state was said by Dihe Mao, President Mao Union, Kohima, on behalf of Meghalaya state by, Dr. Luke Rymbal and Tripura state by, Nabarun Ghosh. Joint Secretary to the Governor, Mhomo Tungoe, gave the welcome address and Under Secretary to the Governor, Kevingozo Visa proposed the vote of thanks
