In alignment with directives from the Office of the Commissioner, Nagaland and the Urban Development Department, ADC Pungro, James T Khulu Tikhir has issued a directive imposing a complete ban on certain single-use plastic (SUP) items effective May 1, 2025.

The banned items include all single-use plastic carry bags, regardless of thickness or microns, and all single-use plastic water and soft drink bottles below one litre capacity.

The restrictions apply to all individuals and entities including educational institutions, government and private offices, commercial establishments such as shops, hotels, restaurants, religious organizations, industrial units, and banquet halls within the jurisdiction of the Pungro Town Council.

Violators of the new policy will face strict penalties. A fine of Rs. 10,000 will be imposed for the first offence, Rs. 20,000 for the second, and repeat offenders may face permit cancellation.
