In response to the detection of African Swine Fever (ASF) at Kigwema and Mitelephe Villages under Kohima District, the Deputy Commissioner of Kohima has issued an official notification declaring the affected regions as Infected and Surveillance Zones for control and containment of the disease.
The notification, issued in reference to the letter from the Chief Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Service Kohima dated 5th August 2025, has outlined the following designations:
Kigwema and Mitelephe villages have been identified as Infected Zones, encompassing a 1-kilometre radius around the infected premises. Surrounding these areas, a Surveillance Zone has been established, covering a 10 Km radius from the infected premises (9 km radius outside the Infected Zone).
In light of the containment measures, a complete ban on the slaughter of pigs, ban on the import and export of pigs and piglets, and ban on the transportation of pigs and pork have been put in place within the specified zones until further notice.
