The Closing ceremony of the 24th inter-district Dr. T. Ao Trophy, coinciding with the of the 79th Independence Day, was held at Indira Gandhi stadium, Kohima on 15th August 2025.

          Chief Minister, Dr. Neiphiu Rio who graced the occasion as the special guest stated that Dr. T. Ao, was a legendary footballer from Nagaland who captained the Indian football team at the London Olympics in 1948. He stated that Ao was a disciplined, humble and hard-working sports person who excelled in his field, and Dr Rio called on the gathering to keep that spirit alive and reach greater heights. He also called on the players to play fair, keeping the spirit of sportsmanship.

The Chief Minister mentioned that the 24th edition of Dr. T Ao the tournament will be remembered for a long time, and it will inspire generations to carry forward the values of sportsmanship, unity and excellence in sports. He assured that the Government is committed to promotion of sports and train the young talents of the state

Deputy Commissioner Kohima, B. Henok Buchem expressed words of gratitude while special performances were displayed by Ace Crew and Obed Kath of Divine Connection

  In the final match, Mon district defeated Niuland district on penalties. After the match ended on 1-1 in extra-time, Mon took home the trophy following a margin of 5-4 on penalties.
