The Office of the Deputy Commissioner, Kohima, organised a reception programme in honour of Gregory Thejawelie, IAS, Commissioner, Nagaland, at the Conference Hall, DC Office, Kohima on 20th March 2026.
Commissioner Nagaland, Gregory Thejawelie expressed gratitude to the DC Office, Kohima officers and staff for organizing a reception in his honour and reflected on his nearly 10-year tenure in the office in various capacities.
He acknowledged the valuable experience gained while working with senior officers, colleagues, and staff, stating that their guidance and teamwork significantly shaped his career. He described serving in the DC office as a privilege, especially in Kohima, the state’s oldest district, and capital with a rich legacy.
The Commissioner expressed satisfaction over visible improvements in the office and commended the present Deputy Commissioner and team. He emphasized that effective governance depends on strong district-level performance and urged officials to work with dedication, coordination, and innovation.
Highlighting the importance of the DC office in public service delivery, he called for greater efficiency, citizen-friendly systems, and enhanced focus on digitization and infrastructure, while acknowledging existing constraints such as limited space.
He expressed confidence that the administration would continue to improve through teamwork and commitment.
Deputy Commissioner Kohima, B. Henok Buchem, NCS, while welcoming Gregory Thejawelie, Commissioner, Nagaland, officers, and other staff, described the Commissioner's return as a moment of pride for the Kohima district administration. Recalling the Commissioner’s tenure in Kohima, Buchem said the district continues to draw inspiration from his leadership, particularly during challenging times.
He highlighted Kohima’s historical significance as Nagaland’s oldest district and noted plans to prepare for its 150-year milestone in 2029. Emphasizing key focus areas, he outlined efforts in improving office infrastructure, enhancing staff capacity, and advancing e-governance initiatives to ensure efficient and citizen-friendly service delivery.
The programme was led by Limakumla Pongener, Extra Assistant Commissioner, Kezocha. Speeches on behalf of various groups were delivered by Alem Yapang Longchar, Additional Deputy Commissioner, Chiephobozou, representing Outpost Administrative Officers; K. Rakalung UDA on behalf of ministerial staff; and Visakholie Nisa, DB-I, on behalf of Dobashis. The programme concluded with a vote of thanks by Ruopfükuotuo Noudi, ADC Kohima.
Following the programme, the re-dedication of the advanced furnishing of the DC Office, Kohima, was held. A prayer of re-dedication was offered by Zajamo Odyuo, Pastor, City Church, Kohima. Gregory Thejawelie, Commissioner, Nagaland, re-dedicated the office to public service and unveiled the commemorative plaque.
