The Department of Planning and Transformation organized a formal farewell programme for retiring Development Commissioner, Temsunaro Aier, IAS, on April 1, 2026, at Hotel Japfu, Kohima.
In her farewell address, Temsunaro Aier expressed heartfelt gratitude to her colleagues, staff, and the Government of Nagaland for being part of her remarkable journey in public service. She reflected that public service, for her, had never been merely a profession but a true calling. Looking back on her career, she said she saw not just files and paperwork, but people, teamwork, challenges overcome, and milestones achieved together.
She noted that the Department of Planning and Transformation has evolved significantly over the years and said she felt proud to have contributed to its journey, despite the many challenges and uncertainties along the way. She emphasized that it was the collective commitment and willingness to go the extra mile that made the difference between success and failure. She added that institutions are strengthened not merely by individuals, but by values such as integrity, dedication, and hard work.
Describing her tenure in the planning department as diverse and enriching, she thanked the Government of Nagaland for placing its trust in her as Development Commissioner. In conclusion, she urged all present to remain committed to the ideals of public service and to serve with strength and clarity.
Speaking on the occasion, Secretary of the Planning and Transport Department, P. Nungsangwapang Jamir, described the event as a celebration of Temsunaro Aier’s illustrious 35 years of service to the State Government and the people of Nagaland. He noted that she was the 29th Development Commissioner and the first and so far only woman to hold the post since statehood.
He highlighted her long career, during which she took on numerous responsibilities in various capacities, serving the people with dedication and resilience. He remarked that her retirement marks the loss of a highly committed and efficient bureaucrat who would be difficult to replace. He also praised her exemplary work ethic and encouraged others to learn from her dedication and commitment.
Additional Development Commissioner, Vilhouhunuo Sachu also spoke on the occasion, expressing appreciation for Temsunaro Aier’s leadership and mentorship. She noted that Aier had consistently encouraged and motivated her colleagues, and attributed many of the department’s achievements to her guidance. Sachu said that Aier’s dedication and pursuit of excellence had been a constant source of inspiration, and that she led with strength and courage.
She added that although Aier’s tenure as Development Commissioner was relatively brief, her contributions were significant and impactful, helping the department reach new heights. She concluded by wishing her a happy, prosperous and fulfilling retired life.
Several other speakers from various departments and cells paid tribute to the retiring officer, highlighting her distinguished career in public service. She was credited as a driving force behind initiatives such as the State Sync App and the Nagaland Institute of Transformation. Many described her as a transformative bureaucrat who consistently worked for the welfare of the people.
The programme was chaired by Heinswading Liegise, Deputy Development Commissioner, while the vote of thanks was delivered by B. Chingmei Phom, Deputy Development Commissioner.
Temsunaro Aier began her career with the Government of Nagaland as an NCS officer in 1991 and was inducted into the Indian Administrative Service in 2022. She first served as EAC Kohima in 1992 and went on to hold several key positions, including Managing Director of Samagra Shiksha, Commissioner and Secretary of Information & Public Relations, and most recently, Development Commissioner of Nagaland.
