Faculty member and nine students from the Department of Library and Information Science, ICFAI University, Nagaland visited the SASRD Library at Nagaland University’s Medziphema campus on 30th April 2026, as part of their academic field study.
The field visit was aimed at giving the students a practical exposure to modern library systems, services and management practices. During the visit, the students visited different sections of the library such as reference, circulation, automation and digital resources.
They were introduced to some of the major areas of library operations like Online Public Access Catalogue (OPAC), cataloguing, classification and the use of library automation tools. Students also got the opportunity to meet and interact with library professionals and gained insights about the daily functioning and the challenges of running an academic library. The visit served as a valuable learning experience and helped bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical experience.
The Nagaland University is the 13th Central University and the only Central University in Nagaland established based on the Act of Parliament of India and received the assent of the President of India on 20th October 1989 as The Nagaland University Act 1989. The University came into being on September 6, 1994 having jurisdiction over the entire state of Nagaland.
At present the University has three campuses, viz. (i) Headquarters at Lumami in Zunheboto district (ii) Kohima Campus at Meriema in Kohima district (iii) Medziphema Campus (School of Agricultural Sciences) at Medziphema in Dimapur district.
There are 43 departments offering Undergraduate and Postgraduate and Ph.D. programmes in different disciplines of Arts, Commerce, Sciences, Agricultural Sciences, Engineering & Technology and Management streams. Besides, 76 colleges from all over the state of Nagaland are currently affiliated to Nagaland University.
