Deputy Commissioner, Kohima, B. Henok Buchem, has informed that the affected stretch of National Highway-2 (Kohima–Mao section) at Chainage Km 191+840 to Km 192+100 in the Phesama Sinking area will remain temporarily closed on 2nd August, 2026 from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

The closure has been necessitated due to active sliding of debris from the adjoining hill slopes and to facilitate restoration work in the interest of public safety.

During the closure, all light motor vehicles (LMVs) will be diverted via Phesama–Kisama/Kigwema through Rhododendron Resort in both directions. Heavy motor vehicles (HMVs) bound for Manipur have been advised to travel via Peren district. In case of emergencies, the Kohima–Jessami and Chakhabama–Zunheboto roads may be used, subject to load restrictions.

The Deputy Commissioner has requested the public to extend full cooperation and adhere to the traffic advisories for their safety and to ensure smooth restoration of the affected highway section.
