A major landslide occurred along National Highway 702A at New Colony, Zunheboto, on August 19, 2026, causing concern among residents and disrupting vehicular movement along the important highway stretch.

According to information available, three houses located in the vicinity of the landslide had been evacuated beforehand as a precautionary measure. The houses were later completely damaged by the landslide. The timely evacuation helped prevent any loss of life or injury to the residents. However, one building in the surrounding area has reportedly developed visible cracks following the landslide, raising concerns over the safety and stability of structures in the affected vicinity.

The landslide resulted in a substantial movement of earth and debris onto the highway, affecting normal vehicular movement along the NH-702A stretch. The incident has also heightened concerns among residents living near the affected area, particularly amid the possibility of further soil movement.

Authorities and concerned departments are assessing the situation and taking necessary measures to ensure public safety and restore safe movement along the highway. Residents in vulnerable locations have also been advised to remain alert and exercise caution, particularly in areas showing signs of ground movement or structural damage.
