Deputy Commissioner, Mokokchung, Ajit Kumar Verma, IAS, convened an emergency joint coordination meeting with the officials and various stakeholders to discuss the recent deaths due to the consumption of suspected adulterated liquor, held at DC's Conference Hall, Mokokchung on 26th September, 2026.

The meeting attended by various representatives of the Ao's civil society organisations, village councils, wards and municipal authorities discussed about the recent incidents involving deaths due to the consumption of suspected adulterated liquor and hospitalizations under Mangkolemba Sub-division.

Sr. SP, Mokokchung, Vesupra Kezo, NPS, also informed the house that SIT was formed to investigate the recent death case row and post mortem was sent for necessary investigation. While six individuals under Mangkolemba sub-division were arrested for sale of liquor, their seized consignments were then sent for necessary testing in the lab.

The house after deliberation resolved that there will be zero tolerance against the individuals involved in sale, transportation, manufacture and storage of liquor in the district. The law enforcement agencies to intensify more checking and conduct raids, while police department to provide one vehicle for daily patrolling in the public areas.

Furthermore, the house also decided that all CSOs to extend all necessary support and cooperate with the enforcing agencies to spread awareness and to strictly implement the prohibition.
