The Deputy Commissioner of Kohima, B. Henok Buchem, NCS, has issued a traffic advisory in view of the partial restoration of the affected section of National Highway-2 (Kohima to Mao) near Phesama, between Chainage KM 192.050 to KM 192.150. The order was issued with reference to the letter from NHIDCL dated 2nd September 2025.
As per the advisory, movement of light motor vehicles (LMVs) shall be allowed. Heavy vehicles up to six wheelers with a maximum load capacity of 20 tons will also be permitted with immediate effect, subject to regulations. Accordingly, south-bound trucks bound for Manipur will be allowed to ply between 8:00 PM and 12:00 midnight only, while Dimapur-bound trucks will be allowed movement between 12:00 midnight and 4:00 AM. Convoys of security forces, LPG carriers, medical emergencies, fire engines and essential services shall be permitted during the day.
The order further stated that traffic will remain suspended between 10:00 AM and 2:00 PM daily to enable restoration and balance works to continue. During this period, an alternative route via Phesama-Kisama/Kigwema through Rhododendron Resort shall remain open. In the event of heavy rainfall, movement of vehicles will be suspended due to risks of landslides.
