Social Welfare Department Mon, on 1st October 2021 observed the International Older Person's Day with the theme, "Digital Equity for all Ages", at DRDA Hall Mon with SDO(C) Mon Hq, Illika Zhimomi, NCS as the special guest.
Illika in her speech stressed on the importance of older person's or senior citizens in the society and encouraged them to think positively and lead a purposeful healthy life. She stated that they were treasures of history to be passed on to the next generation. With their immense experience and wisdom, she urged them to continue to advice and guide the younger generations and live out with pride in the society.
In his address, DWO, Mon, Y. Tauhong Ngonyen stated that the day was celebrated all over the world. He also took the time to felicitate two distinguished senior citizen, Lyu-Ao Konyak and T. Phamtong Konyak.
CDPO Mon, Renchano Odyuo, also felicitated two retired senior citizens from the Department, Rtd. Chowkidar, Thongwang and Rtd. Chowkidar, Hongpheang.
CDPO, Phomching, Laitak while delivering the keynote address stated that the aim of observing the day was to spread awareness about the issues affecting the elderly.
"Digital equity for all affirms the need for access and meaningful participation in the digital world by older person's", he stated.
He also stated that empowered older persons enhance their ability to live independently and that technology can promote cost effective access health care for older persons.
The programme was chaired by LDA, DWO Office Mon, Yumah and Welfare Inspector, DWO Mon, Golang Kheman delivered the vote of thanks.
