The Ministry of Tribal Affairs has released a vacancy circular on 24th July 2026, inviting applications for two posts of Deputy Director in the National Commission for Scheduled Tribes (NCST), to be filled on deputation basis.
According to the circular issued by the NCST Section of the Ministry, eligible and willing officers serving under the Central Government, State Governments, Union Territories, statutory or autonomous organisations, public sector undertakings, recognised universities or recognised research institutions may apply for the posts. The selected candidates will be placed at Level 11 in the pay matrix, carrying a scale of Rs 67,700 to Rs 2,08,700.
The notification clarifies that departmental officers in the feeder category who fall in the direct line of promotion will not be considered for appointment on deputation, and deputationists will similarly not be eligible for consideration through promotion.
Selected officers may be posted at the NCST headquarters in New Delhi or at any of its regional offices in Bhopal, Bhubaneswar, Jaipur, Raipur, Ranchi or Shillong, as decided by the Commission. The deputation tenure, including any period already spent on an ex-cadre post in the same or another Central Government organisation immediately before this appointment, will ordinarily not exceed four years, subject to extension or curtailment based on requirement and mutual consent between the officer and the concerned departments.
The upper age limit for appointment on deputation has been fixed at 56 years as on the closing date for receipt of applications. Interested candidates can find detailed eligibility conditions on the Ministry of Tribal Affairs website, with pay and allowances to be governed by the relevant Department of Personnel and Training guidelines at www.tribal.nic.in .
To be eligible, applicants must either hold an analogous post on a regular basis in their parent cadre or department, or have five years of regular service in Level 10 (Rs 56,100–1,77,500) or its equivalent. Candidates are additionally required to hold a master's degree in fields such as Social Work, Sociology, Economics, Anthropology, Social Anthropology, Applied Anthropology, Statistics, Psychology, Geography, or Mathematics with Statistics from a recognised university, along with at least two years of experience in conducting surveys or research related to social welfare, including data analysis and report preparation.
Applications, complete with attested copies of ACRs/APARs for the last five years, vigilance clearance, an integrity certificate and details of any penalties imposed during the last ten years, must be routed through proper channel to the Under Secretary in charge of the NCST Division at the Ministry's office in Patel Chowk, New Delhi (emails: ts.bal@nic.in and ms.khokhar@nic.in ). The last date for receipt of applications will be 60 days from the date the advertisement is published in Employment News. Applications received after the deadline or found incomplete will not be considered, and officers selected for the posts will not be permitted to withdraw their candidature at a later stage.
