A co-ordination meeting with District Steering Committee on "National Initiative for Proficiency in reading with Understanding & Numeracy (NIPUN) Bharat" was held in DC's Conference Hall Kohima on 10th September 2021.
ADC Kohima, N. Bhavani Sri chairing the meeting informed that the purpose of the meeting was to understand and launch the NIPUN program. She said that the district has a huge role to play and requested all the line departments to work together in concession in order to achieve the policy.
Giving a brief introduction on NIPUN Bharat Deputy Mission Director, Samagra Shiksha, Kelhikha Kenye stated that the Ministry of Education has launched NIPUN to ensure every child in the country necessarily attains Foundational Literacy and Numeracy (FLN) by the end of Grade 3, by 2026-27. He said that Foundational Numeracy means the ability to reason and to apply simple numerical concepts in daily life problem solving.
The mission will be set up under the aegis of the centrally sponsored scheme of SamagraShiksha which is an integrated scheme of School Education covering from pre-school to senior secondary level. It will focus on children of age group of 3 to 9 years including pre-school to grade 3.
Congratulating the Kohima district for taking up the early initiative for implementation of this programme, Kenye sought all the line departments to work together in every level by engaging teachers, parents, community leaders and stakeholders to ensure schools children attains this competency.
Kenye also gave a PowerPoint presentation on the vision of FLM Mission, National Achievement Survey (NAS) 2017, National Education Policy 2020, aims to achieve FLN by 2026-27, objectives, learning goals of the mission, empowering teachers', administrative approaches and role of various stakeholders & institution in the mission, establish PMU at state and district level, monitoring & information technology/framework and the impact of FLN mission.
