St. Joseph University conducted its fresher induction for the under graduate students cum inaugural function of Bachelor of Physical Education (BPES) at St. Joseph University Auditorium, Chumoukedima on 10th July, 2024.

Gracing the occasion as the special guest, Advisor to Chief Minister & Ambassador of St. Joseph palliative care, Nagaland, Abu Metha stated that St. Joseph University is the first educational institute in Nagaland that has incorporated a course for physical education in sports. He added the new venture will write many stories not just for Nagaland but for the nation in the generations to come. He congratulated and thanked the university for taking a quick action and introducing the course. He also thanked the Bishop of Kohima for his efforts for induction of the course. He said that Nagaland is strategically located and urged the students to take this opportunity to empower themselves in knowledge and contribute to the society.

Metha mentioned that the international sports industry is valued at 500 billion USD while Indian sports industry will reach 100 billion USD in 2027 and India is one of the top richest sports in the world and the rising superpower in sports. He stated that people watch sports than any other human activities on earth and sports bring nations together under one umbrella. He said that if Nagaland is to become a hub of sports and youth, it will be the first batch of graduates from this course who will lay the foundation of that ambition. He also said that Nagaland has the ambition to sound its presence not only at the national level but international level.

He encouraged the youth across the State to have courage and to be brave. Success will come to those who work hard and are committed. He called on the students to be ambassadors of Nagaland and let the State rise and contribute to Nation's building process.

Other highlights of the program included welcome address by Registar, St. Joseph University, Dr. A Robert Xavier; presidential address by Vice Chancellor, St. Joseph University, Dr. D. Gnanadurai. Key note address was delivered by Bishop of Kohima, Pro- Chancellor, St. Joseph University, Rev. Dr. James Thoppil.. Vote of thanks was delivered by Dean of Students Affairs, St. Joseph University, Prof. Charles Mhonthung Ezung.
