Under the initiative of Wokha Town Councillor, Thungchano Kikon representing Ward-10, a special plantation drive was carried out at Ward-10 which includes six (6) colonies on 20th August 2024. The plantation drive was carried out under the theme “CHERRY 10 & GO GREEN”.

The plantation drive was conducted focusing on preservation of the indigenous Cheery plant and other indigenous plants and to create awareness about the importance of plantation and preserving healthy environment, where around 1500 (One thousand five hundred) saplings including wild apples and other indigenous plants were planted in all the six colonies under ward-10 of Wokha town.

Before the distribution and planting of saplings was carried out, a formal function was held at the residence of Chief Medical Officer, Wokha Dr. Zuben Kikon, Blue Hill Colony Wokha town. Wokha Town Councillor, Thungchano Kikon  stressed on the importance of preserving nature by planting more trees as it is very necessary because trees provides oxygen to the environment and make the air quality better. She also added if more trees are planted the worlds environment will become a safer and healthy place to live thus making the life of future generation secure.

Councillor and the Colony members expressed gratitude and appreciation to District Forest Ranger, Wokha, Grace Kikon for her assistance in arranging the samplings.
