In the wake of massive mudslides and landslides that have impacted key routes between Kohima and Dimapur, the Commissioner of Police, Dimapur, Kevithuto Sophie, IPS has issued an urgent advisory for the public on 4th September 2024.

A massive mudslide at Pherima, along with significant landslides at Tseipama/Piphema, and a major landslide at Pagala Pahar/New Chumoukedima has resulted in the complete blockage of National Highway 29 (NH-29). The affected section of the road has been washed away, making it impassable for all vehicular traffic between Kohima and Dimapur.

In light of the road conditions, the police have also advised against using the alternate Pimla – Mhainamtsi route for travel between Kohima and Dimapur, as it is also affected by mudslides and landslides.

For those willing to travel Niuland – Kohima route via Zhadima remains open for light motor vehicles only. However, heavy vehicles are prohibited from using this route due to safety concerns.

The Commissioner has issued this advisory as a matter of public safety and urgency. Travellers are urged to take extreme precautions during the on-going adverse weather conditions and to plan their journeys accordingly.
