The new Chief Medical Officer (CMO) building in Dimapur was inaugurated on 31st October 2024 at Medical Colony, Dimapur
Speaking as the special guest, Advisor, Labour & Employment, Skill Development & Entrepreneurship, and Excise, Moatoshi Longkumer emphasized the importance of robust healthcare infrastructure. He described the new facility as a key addition that would help Dimapur better meet the medical needs of its residents and visitors from across the state. He highlighted Dimapur’s role as a healthcare hub, where citizens from all corners of Nagaland often travel to seek medical assistance. The new building, he added, will serve as an efficient, accessible administrative centre to support and streamline healthcare services for the community.
Longkumer outlined the vision for the CMO building as a central hub for health program planning, resource management, and the development of strategies aimed at improving community health outcomes. He noted that many residents struggle to access basic medical services due to economic hardships and underscored the building’s role in making quality healthcare affordable and accessible to those who need it most. He also praised the dedication of healthcare workers and administrators, recognizing the often-unseen efforts that contribute to making healthcare facilities impactful for the community.
Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Limatula Aier addressing the gathering, expressing gratitude for the completion of the long-awaited facility. She noted that the old CMO building, which had become worn down, was demolished in May 2021, prompting the Department’s efforts to create a modern facility for healthcare administration. Dr. Aier acknowledged the hard work of Health Minister, Paiwang Konyak, contractors, and staff who have helped in bringing the project to completion despite challenges. She announced that the new CMO office would begin operations on November 1, 2024.
Longkumer also officially opened the building by cutting the ribbon and unveiled a commemorative stone during the event. The event was chaired by Dr. Benchilo Ngullie, District Tuberculosis Officer, with an invocation led by Rev. Yhunlo Thong, Chaplain at the District Hospital, Dimapur.
