The inauguration programme of Viksit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan, a nationwide campaign was held at Community Hall, Mhainamtsi Village, Peren on 29th May 2025. The programme was jointly organised by Deputy Commissioner, Peren, ICAR-Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Peren, CAU Jalukie and State Agriculture & Allied Departments, and it was attended by more than 175 farmers from Mhainamtsi, Nkwareu and New-Jalukie Village.
Addressing the event as the special guest, Dean, CoVSc, CAU, Jalukie Campus, Dr. I. Shakuntala asserted that the campaign aims to educate farmers about modern technologies for major kharif crops specific to different reasons, establish direct communication between policymakers, scientists and farmers, strive to build a sustainable and self-reliant farming ecosystem, contributing significantly to the goal of Viksit-Bharat 2047, raise awareness about beneficial government schemes and policies, guide farmers on using Soil Health Cards for crop selection and balanced fertilizer application, collect feedback to understand the need of the farmers, and to design demand driven research.
Stating that the campaign marks a significant step towards realizing the government's vision of "Lab to Land" and building a developed India through modern and progressive agriculture, she said that it further aims to cover over 700 districts, 65,000 villages and 1.5 crore farmers nationwide.
She also highlighted that, over a period of 15 days, there will be direct engagement with farmers, scientists and agricultural experts to bridge the gap between scientific research and rural application. She also mentioned that, a total of 2,170 dedicated teams are being engaged, supported by all 731 Krishi Vigyan Kendras (KVKs), 113 ICAR Institutes, universities and state-level Departments of Agriculture, Horticulture, Animal Husbandry and Fisheries.
Mentioning that, this is the first time in the history the biggest Abhiyan/campaign in science, she said, a team of experts comprising of officials from KVK Peren, ICAR, CAU and state officials are set to start the campaign with full of enthusiasm and spirit. Therefore, she requested the farmers to open up their minds, make full use of the opportunity and further conveyed her best wishes for a successful and fruitful campaign.
ADC Jalukie, Albert in his speech acknowledged the efforts put in by the officials of Agri. & Allied Departments, Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), farmers and other stakeholders for successfully launching the VKSA campaign in Peren District.
In India, rainfall and agriculture is closely linked and with this inclement weather it may be a challenge to reach out to those remote villages especially under Ahthibung and Tening Sub-division, however he expressed confidence that through the concerted efforts of the officials and with this launching programme, the landscape of agriculture and it's economy in the district would change to a great extent.
The programme aims to transform the agriculture in terms of its productivity and sustainability and it is meant to be a farmer-centric programme, the ADC added.
To the farmers, he said, Peren District is endowed with great potential in terms of farming and agriculture, and it has more advantages for farmers as compared to other districts. Therefore, he encouraged them to work hard, change their attitude and judiciously utilize the natural resources, while encouraging them to personally engage in farming activities instead of relying on non-local labour.
Further, Ezung also shared some valuable inputs which will benefit the farmers in the district.
The programme was chaired by DAO Peren, Dr. Zieleigai Ndang, while keynote address was delivered by CTO-Soil Science, Incharge Head, KVK Peren, Z. James Kikon. It concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by CVO Peren, Dr. Namsui Thou.
