Director of Geology and Mining, Dr. Kenyelo Rengma, has issued a public notice stating that all drilling agencies/firms, including manual hand-boring parties operating within the State of Nagaland, are required to obtain a permit and register their machinery and equipment with the Directorate of Geology & Mining, Nagaland.
All commercial and industrial users of groundwater (such as water bottling plants, car wash centres, water parks, etc.) are also directed to obtain a permit for groundwater extraction from the Department. Application forms can be collected from the Directorate of Geology & Mining, Dimapur, during office working hours.
The registration process should be completed on or before 30th November 2025. The notice further stated that failure to comply with these directives shall invite penalty and/or legal action under the provisions of the Nagaland Groundwater (Regulation and Control of Development and Management) Rules, 2020.
