The Governor of Nagaland, Nand Kishore Yadav, attended the Xavierite Academic Closing Day for the academic session 2025–2026 at the College Auditorium, St. Xavier College, Jalukie, Peren on 17th April 2026.
Addressing the gathering, the Governor extended greetings and congratulated the management, faculty, students, and parents for successfully completing the academic year. He stated that institutions like St. Xavier College play an important role in shaping responsible citizens with strong values, discipline, and a spirit of service.
Describing the occasion as a time for reflection and celebration, he highlighted that the academic session reflected the hard work, perseverance, and achievements of students, with every challenge and milestone contributing to their growth.
Emphasizing the true purpose of education, the Governor said it goes beyond marks and degrees and includes character building, compassion, leadership, and meaningful contribution to society. He expressed confidence in the youth of Nagaland, noting their talent, creativity, and potential across various fields.
He urged students to strive for excellence with humility and integrity, and to ensure that knowledge is guided by wisdom and service to humanity. He added that true education empowers individuals to become better human beings.
The Governor also appreciated the role of teachers and parents for their dedication and guidance in nurturing young minds.
He wished the students success in their future endeavours and expressed hope that St. Xavier College would continue its mission of imparting quality education and shaping future leaders.
Deputy Chief Minister, T.R. Zeliang in his address acknowledged the presence of Governor Nand Kishore Yadav and appreciated his visit to the institution and the district. He highlighted the significant role played by St. Xavier College as the only private higher education institution in the district, noting its high student enrollment and the trust reposed in it by the people.
Zeliang commended the college for maintaining affordable education, promoting academic excellence, and producing university toppers. He also appreciated initiatives such as the Earn and Learn programme and Payback Award for encouraging self-reliance among students.
He noted the importance of vocational courses and skill training in enhancing employability and lauded the institution’s sports infrastructure, which includes facilities for multiple disciplines and has enabled students to represent the state and national levels.
Highlighting the college’s achievements, he mentioned its NAAC Grade A accreditation with a CGPA of 3.12 and recognition through awards such as the NSS National Award and Governor’s Commendation Certificate. He also acknowledged student participation in National-Level events including the National Youth Parliament, Republic Day Parade, National Games, and Archery Championships.
Zeliang appreciated the leadership of the Principal, the dedication of faculty, and the contributions of non-teaching staff. He encouraged students to pursue education with integrity and a sense of responsibility. He congratulated the college community for its achievements and expressed hope that the institution would continue to contribute to the development of youth in the region.
The event began with the National Song and National Anthem, followed by a presentation titled “Tamasyoma Gyotir Gamaya” by Nginlak Jonah and Lhingpilhai. A welcome address was delivered by Ikaile, while the Principal extended greetings.
The programme also featured a variety of cultural performances, including a tribal tune by Japuvino and Paisuingaulule, and a fusion dance by the Cultural Club. The commissioning of Sadbhavana Projects was also part of the event.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks by Pauziulung, followed by the National Song and National Anthem. A photo session, drone show, and the “Know Your Army” campaign conducted by Assam Rifles were also held.
