In view of the confirmed outbreak of African Swine Fever (ASF) reported by the Office of the Chief Veterinary Officer, Chumoukedima, from Toulazouma Village under Chumoukedima district, the Deputy Commissioner, Chumoukedima, Polan John, NCS has issued an advisory prescribing immediate containment and preventive measures until further orders.

According to the advisory, the area within a radius of one kilometre from the outbreak epicentre at Toulazouma Village has been declared as the “Infected Zone”, while the area within a radius of ten kilometres has been designated as the “Surveillance Zone.”

The advisory stated that movement and transportation of pigs, pork, pig products, feed and related materials within and outside the notified zones have been strictly prohibited. Slaughter, sale and distribution of pigs and pork products within the containment zones shall also remain prohibited until further notification.

To prevent further spread of the disease, the Veterinary Department along with law enforcement agencies will undertake surveillance, monitoring and other preventive measures in the affected areas.

All Village Councils, GBs, ward authorities, butchers, meat vendors and members of the public have been directed to strictly comply with the advisory and immediately report any unusual sickness or death of pigs to the nearest Veterinary Office.

The advisory further instructed pig farm owners to maintain strict biosecurity measures, including disinfection and restricted farm access. Disposal of pig carcasses shall be carried out only in accordance with Veterinary Department protocols and Government of India guidelines.

It was also informed that any violation of the advisory will invite necessary action under the relevant provisions of law. The advisory has come into force with immediate effect and will remain in force until further notification.
