The Deputy Commissioner & District Magistrate, Wokha, K. Mhathung Tsanglao, has issued an order on 16th June 2026, under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), 2023, in view of credible information received about tension and apprehension of breach of peace in Ward No. 8 under Wokha Town Council during the ongoing Town Council election on 16th June 2026.
The order stated that rival groups and supporters may indulge in activities likely to cause obstruction, annoyance, injury to persons engaged in election‑related duties, disturbance of public tranquillity, riot, affray, or danger to human life and property. The District Magistrate stated that immediate preventive measures are necessary to maintain law and order and to ensure free, fair, and peaceful elections.
The following prohibitions have been enforced within Ward No. 8, Wokha Town Council, with immediate effect and until further orders or completion of the election process, whichever is earlier:
1. Assembly of five or more persons for any unlawful purpose.
2. Carrying of arms, weapons, sticks, daos, machetes, catapults, explosives, or any other articles capable of being used as weapons.
3. Intimidation, coercion, threat, inducement, or interference with electors, polling personnel, election officials, or candidates.
4. Any act, speech, slogan, or activity likely to provoke violence, create communal or group tensions, or disturb public peace and tranquillity.
5. Obstruction of movement of election officials, security personnel, and voters proceeding to or from polling stations.
The order clarifies that it shall not apply to personnel of the Police, Armed Forces, Central Armed Police Forces, and other government agencies engaged in maintenance of law and order and election duties, nor to election officials and persons specifically authorized by the Election Authority for official purposes.
Any person contravening the order shall be liable for prosecution under the relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023. The Superintendent of Police, Wokha, has been directed to ensure strict enforcement of the order in letter and spirit.
