A consultative meeting on Census 2027 was convened on 26th June 2026 at the Deputy Commissioner’s Conference Hall, Zunheboto. The meeting aimed to underscore the critical need for accurate population enumeration and to secure the active cooperation of key regional stakeholders ahead of the upcoming nationwide census exercise.

The session was chaired by Deputy Commissioner & Principal Census Officer of Zunheboto, Dharam Raj, IAS. It saw robust attendance from representatives of premier Civil Society Organizations (CSOs), including the Sümi Hoho, Sümi Kukami Hoho, Sümi Totimi Hoho, Sümi Kiphimi Kuqhakulu, the Zunheboto Town Gaon Bura Association (ZTGBA), and all Gaon Buras (GBs) representing villages under the Zunheboto Sadar jurisdiction.

Addressing the house, the DC highlighted the direct link between demographic data and future governance, stating, “There is no choice regarding delimitation.” He emphasized that generating authentic, clean data is an absolute prerequisite to ensure every region receives its rightful and equitable share of development.

Further, the Deputy Commissioner issued a strong caution against demographic anomalies, particularly duplicate or multiple entries. Urging all stakeholders to closely monitor the process, he stressed that every individual must be counted exactly once. Authentic census figures, he noted, form the bedrock for administrative planning, fair resource allocation, the targeted implementation of government welfare schemes, and political representation.

The interaction concluded with the participating CSOs and village authorities expressing their absolute commitment to supporting the census machinery. The house issued a collective appeal to all village administrations to ensure that the Census 2027 is carried out in transparency, accuracy, and completely error-free.
