A District Development Coordination and Monitoring Committee (DISHA) meeting was held at the Deputy Commissioner’s Hall, Zunheboto, under the chairmanship of Member of Parliament (Lok Sabha), S. Supongmeren Jamir. MLA Dr. Sukhato A. Sema, who is also a member of DISHA, along with the Deputy Commissioner & Member Secretary of DISHA, Dharam Raj, IAS, and heads of offices and departmental officials attended the meeting.
Addressing the gathering, MP Lok Sabha, S. Supongmeren Jamir stressed the importance of officers being present at their respective places of posting and working with dedication for the welfare and development of the district. He urged heads of offices not to restrict themselves only to the duties assigned to their respective departments but to go beyond their designated roles whenever necessary to address issues affecting the district and its people.
The MP stated that officers posted in the district have an important responsibility towards the people and should make the best use of their authority for the overall development of the district. He appealed to all heads of offices to remain at their places of posting and give their best in serving the people.
He further observed that the purpose of holding DISHA meetings would be undermined if heads of offices were not available at their respective places of posting. He therefore urged all departmental heads to remain accessible and responsive to the needs of the public. He also called upon officers to ensure that the authority entrusted to them is not misused but exercised responsibly and in the larger interest of the district.
MLA Dr. Sukhato A. Sema, in his address, stated that his participation in the DISHA meeting was aimed at taking stock of the implementation of key Central Government schemes and assessing the progress of various development programmes at the grassroots level. He also emphasised the importance of coordination among elected representatives, the district administration and government departments to ensure effective implementation of schemes and better delivery of public services.
Dr. Sema also raised the issue of the Food Corporation of India (FCI) godown constructed in the district at an estimated cost of ₹20 crore. He stated that the project was sanctioned by the Government of India and that the sanctioned amount had reportedly been fully drawn. He emphasised that the facility should serve its intended purpose and benefit the people of the district.
The MLA appealed to the Deputy Commissioner to look into the matter and ensure that the FCI godown is utilised effectively for the benefit of Zunheboto district.
Earlier, the meeting commenced with a welcome address by the Deputy Commissioner, who highlighted that the primary objective of DISHA is to review, coordinate and monitor the implementation of various development programmes and Central Government schemes in the district. He emphasised the importance of effective coordination among departments to ensure that development initiatives reach the intended beneficiaries at the grassroots level.
The meeting also provided a platform for reviewing development activities and discussing issues related to the implementation of various Central Government schemes in the district. The members emphasised the need for close monitoring, inter-departmental coordination and timely action to ensure that government schemes and programmes translate into tangible benefits for the people.
Later, presentation on departmental activities was given by Assistant Labour Commissioner (ALC), Tali from Labour Department. and District Agriculture Officer presented on behalf of Agriculture Department and Veterinary Officer, Dr. Vikato H Ayeni presented on behalf of the Department of Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Services activities in Zunheboto district
The meeting concluded with a call for greater accountability, coordination and commitment among all stakeholders towards achieving inclusive and sustainable development in Zunheboto district.
