Deputy Commissioner, Noklak P. Mono Khiamniungan in an order issued on 20th August 2026, stated that it has been reported by the Office of the Chief Veterinary Officer, Noklak vide letter No. VET/NLK/ASF/2026-27/54 dated 18/08/2026, that the tissue sample collected from New Pangsha, Village has been confirmed positive of African Swine Fever (ASF) in the laboratory test conducted at Animal Health Centre, NERDDL, Khanapara, Guwahati vide letter No. AHC 107/NERDDL/ASF/Result Nol-I/2025-26/1039 dated 10/08/2026, the area has been declared as "Infected Zone".
Several reports of pig mortality around New Pangsha Village have also been reported to the Veterinary Office, Noklak.
African Swine Fever (ASF) is a highly contagious viral disease affecting pigs, and immediate preventive and containment measures are necessary to prevent further spread of the disease. It informed that as per the relevant provision, the following restrictions and containment measures are imposed in New Pangsha Village with immediate effect and shall remain in force until further order:
The area within 1 (one) Kilometre radius from New Pangsha Village is declared as "Infected Zone”, while the area extending upto 10 (ten) Kilometres outside the infected Zone shall be treated as "Surveillance Zone".
The Public are advised to abstain from the purchase, sale and consumption of pork and pork products within the infected zone and adjoining/contiguous areas. Slaughtering sale, purchase and transport of pigs and pork products within the affected area is strictly prohibited. Disposal of dead pigs shall be carried out only through deep burial or incineration, in accordance with approved bio-security and sanitary protocols.
The Office of the Chief Veterinary Officer shall implement all necessary surveillance, quarantine, containment, sanitization, and disease control measures as per the Govt. guidelines and SOPs. While the Public are advised to remain vigilant and immediately report any unusual sickness, suspected infection, abnormal behavior, or sudden death of pigs to the nearest Veterinary Centre/Hospital or the office of the Chief Veterinary Officer, Phone No.7085389972.
