The District Education Department, Wokha, celebrated Teacher’s Day at VDB Hall, Wokha on 5th September 2026 with Deputy Commissioner, K. Mhathung Tsanglao gracing the occasion as special guest.

In his address, the Deputy Commissioner acknowledged the profound role of teachers as the torchbearers of society, describing them as the “silent architects” who shape communities. He highlighted the growing influence of technological integration in education, noting that while digital tools make learning easier, they also expose students to unverified information. He urged teachers to act as filters and guides, ensuring that learners receive authentic knowledge. Stressing that teaching is not confined to textbooks, he emphasized the importance of guiding students toward their future, adding that a “human touch” is essential even in the age of artificial intelligence.

He further remarked that teachers must extend their role beyond professional duties, assuring good parenting in nurturing their children.

The programme began with a welcome address by Senior SDEO Wokha, Nchumbemo Jami, followed by Vice Principal of GHSS Wokha, L. Mharoni Odyuo, who shared the significance of Teacher’s Day. District Teachers’ Awards were conferred on four distinguished educators: Thungdemo Humtsoe of GHSS Bhandari; L. Yanbeni Murry of GMS Wokha Town D; N. Longshibeni Ngullie of GPS Saron Wokha; and Jennifer Tsanglao of Isiah Ability Higher Secondary School, Wokha. Special presentations added vibrancy to the celebration, with performances by Libemo Memorial School Wokha, Don Bosco Higher Secondary School, and GMS Wokha Town D and B. The programme was chaired by Mercy Tungoe.
