Peren District celebrated 150th Birth Anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi at DC's Conference Hall, District Hq. Peren on 2nd October, 2020.

Deputy Commissioner Peren, Sentiwapang Aier, NCS spoke on the role played by Mahatma Gandhi during the India's struggle for freedom and also on the non-violence movement started by Mahatma Gandhi. He also encouraged the gathering to consider Gandhiji as their role model and further urged them to work with utmost sincerity and with zeal in their field of work in order to achieve something great in life.

EAC and Nodal Officer BBBP Peren, Sukhalu Chisi stressed on the topic "Beti Bachao Beti Padhao (BBBP)". He said BBBP literally means "Save the Girl Child, Educate Her" and it was launched by the Prime Minister of India on 22nd January, 2015 and is also a joint initiative of MoWCD, MoHFW & MoHRD. Further, Chisi also highlighted the aims and objectives of BBBP Campaign.

Peren District Legal Services Authority Retainer Lawyer, Asungbe also spoke on the topic "Equality has no gender", "Naga Women and the reservation issue" and "Women in decision making".

The programme was chaired by ARO Peren, Moses Newmai, while keynote address was delivered by SDO (C) Peren, Vejoyo Swuro and entertainment by DB, Adwa.

NOKLAK:

 

Noklak District Administration organized a programme to mark the commemoration of 150th Birth Anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi on 2nd October 2020 at DC’s conference hall, Noklak.

During the occasion, extempore speech competition was held where Tsuwing of Christian High School Noklak, Peshing of St. Paul School, Noklak and Monghoi of Christian high School, Noklak were adjudged as 1st, 2nd & 3rd respectively.

Meanwhile, a short documentary on the life of Mahatma Gandhi was screened during the programme.

SDO (Civil) Noklak, C.Phuniang administrated the pledge on Swachh Bharat. EAC Noklak, L.Mongo Khiamniungan gave the vote of thanks. The programme was chaired by B.Tsutsoi.Officers, teachers and students from different institutions attended the programme.

LONGLENG:

 

In commemoration of 150th Birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, the District Administration Longleng organized a quiz competition on 2nd October 2020 at DCs conference hall Longleng.

AddlSP Longleng, Atopu Sumi in his short speech shared on Gandhiji’s inspiring lifestyle, his teachings and referred him as man of truthfulness. He encouraged all to follow and practice what Mahatma Gandhi has started, be a lover of non-violence, remove injustice, conflicts among family, tribes and community. If all those qualities of oneness are embraced then better society awaits, he added.

Four schools participated where Christian high school Longleng bagged the first position and St. Joseph high school bagged second. Pichano Kikon EAC Longleng HQ, was the quiz master at the competition.

The District Administration in collaboration with Mahila Shakti Kendra (MSK) and District Task Force on BBBP Longleng a Free Health Check Up for women and girl child was organized by at community hall, Mongtikang village. As part of the program SSA account for girl child and PMMVY forms were also distributed to the deserving beneficiaries. Altogether 65 women and girl child who were in need of medical health check up were registered and avail free medical facilities. The Deputy Commissioner Longleng M. Shayung Phom and Senior Superintendent of Police, Yanithung Ezung also joined the team. The medical team was headed by CMO Longleng Dr. Obangjungla and her team of doctors was Dr. Avono, Dr. Khyothungo, Dr. Shamjeih Phom, Dr. Lemshikala and Dr. Chumei Phom.

In completion of the two year-long commemoration period of 150th Birth Anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, District Administration of Peren in convergence with District Level Centre for Women-Mahila Shakti Kendra and Medical Department, Peren organised a free medical checkup camp for women concentrating on women's hygiene at Primary Health Centre (PHC) Ahtibung on 2nd October, 2020.

District Coordinator MSK, Lungngaulie gave a brief highlight about the aims and objectives of BBBP in the district and further reminded them to maintain social distance as well as to adapt a healthy living in this time of pandemic. She also said that since 1990s empowerment of women has also been one of the primary focus of Government policy.

PHC Ahthibung MO, Dr. Vezokholu Khamo apprised the women about the importance of maintaining a healthy or a daily women hygiene to prevent irritation, odour and infections from occurring. The various types of hygiene she mentioned were: toilet hygiene, nail hygiene, teeth hygiene, sickness hygiene, hands hygiene etc.

During the programme, sanitary pads, file cover and masks were also distributed to all the participants.

KOHIMA:

 

The Forest Department, Silviculture Division Kohima in collaboration with the Forest Colony Council organized Cleanliness Drive and Plantation activity on 2nd October 2020 to commemorate the two-year long 150th Birth Anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi which concludes on 2nd October 2020. The Plantation activity was carried out at the Government Middle School campus, Forest Colony. Species of Ginkgo biloba, Taxus spp, Emblica officinalis, Erythrina variegate, Ficus spp, Malus sylvestris, Prunus allium were planted. Cleanliness drive was carried out in different areas of the colony. 

A short formal program preceded the social work where the State Silviculturist Lhinghoikim Touthang IFS welcomed the participants. RFO Grace Kikon briefed on the significance of teachings of Gandhi. The Forest Colony Chairman Peter Rengma spoke about the importance of cleanliness both within and outside the household. He also shared his experiences on undertaking plantation and nurturing the plants. Vote of thanks was pronounced by Sunep L Imsong Fr-I.

The Silviculture office has expressed gratitude to the forest colony council members and the youth for their cooperation and active participation.
