Along with the rest of the world, a weeklong celebration of the “International Girl Child day” on the Theme; “My Voice, Our Equal Future” was observed at Longleng district from 7th-11th October 2020, organized by the District Administration, Beti Bachao Beti Padhao and Mahila Shakti Kendra Longleng. 

Closing event of the “International Girl Child Day” was held on 11thOctober 2020 at DC Conference Hall.  Speaking at the event, the Deputy Commissioner Longleng M Shayung Phom encouraged the gathering to give importance on quality education to both male and female child without any discrimination. Also, citing the example of his own family, where female child were included in taking major decision brought a huge changes and success in the family. 

Trongdiba Tongpi T.Sangtam SDO (Civil) Longleng inspired the gathering by announcing a commitment to sponsor a girl child education (school & tuition fees), and also encouraged them to always respect women and girls in every aspects of their life. He concluded, given the opportunity, a girl child can bring a great change in the society in particular and nation at large while Ruokuosetuo Tetseo, EAC HQ Longleng spoke on the importance and significance of the day.

The highlights of the event also saw female artist “Soul Sisters” performing a beautiful song called “Spread your wings”. Also winners of Super Girl costume competition were announced at the event. Shamthung Phom of PPC ward bagged the first position, while Yingli Phom of Shuli ward bagged the second position and Mungli Phom of Nyenching in the third place. The winners were awarded with certificates and cash prize and consolation prizes were also given to all the participants. The awards were given away by CMO Dr. Obangjungla and Sr.SP Yanithung NPS Longleng.  The program was chaired by Phungla Phom WWO, MSK Longleng.

The weeklong activities to mark the celebration includes Pink Painting of street walls, Super Girl costume competition, Formation of BBBP volunteers, Social Work and the closing event on 11th October 2020. 

To promote the BBBP scheme widely, 10(ten) girls each from every ward of Longleng town have been selected as BBBP volunteers. They will be assisting in all the activities under BBBP scheme in the district.  Social work was also initiated by the newly formed BBBP volunteers led by the ward Youth President on 10th October 2020 in all the wards.
