Deputy Commissioner Noklak, Hiazu Meru inaugurated the Noklak District Handloom and Handicraft Council (NDHHC) Office on 19th July 2022 at Punyaongan Sector Noklak Town.

Speaking at the inaugural programme, Hiazu Meru stated that Noklak district has many artisans good at handicrafts, blacksmithy, pottery, weaving, woodworks, etc. and some of the last traditional Naga practices are found in the district such as cotton growing, weaving, and traditional products. And under the NDHHC, artisans will get an opportunity to earn their livelihood, DC added.

Hiazu Meru explained the Geographical Indications of Goods (Registration and Protection) Act 1999, its proposal, and the types of geographical indications. He also shared the importance of documentation and awareness creation.

Further, DC said that the roles and responsibilities of NDHHC will be multiplied and have the potential to benefit the district and assured that the district administration is in full support of the Council.

            Superintendent of Police, Noklak, Dr. Pritpal Kaur, while encouraging the artisans, said the products of handloom and handicrafts are in high demand in the market. SP advised the artisans that the finished product should be of good quality and improve with the technology so that it will increase market demand. She shared on the marketing of products such as the opening of shops, using social media, etc. She encouraged them to work hard on handloom and handcraft where it will generate income and at the same time preserve the culture and tradition.

President, Khaimniungan Tribal Council, M. Thangou said that the district is lacking behind in all aspects and therefore requested the DC, SP, and all the stakeholder departments' officials to work harder for the upliftment and benefits of the people and be an ambassador of the district.

The welcome address was spoken by President, NDHHC Khumo while dedicatory prayer was delivered by Pastor A. Penglang, Longdon Baptist Church, Noklak Town.
