The Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority (NSDMA) has issued a weather updates for eight days from 16th to 23rdJuly, 2025.
It informed that Nagaland will witness moderate rain to heavy rain with thunderstorm in all districts until July 23, 2025. Between 16th to 21stJuly, 2025, heavy rains and thunderstorm is expected in the districts of Mon, Tseminyu, Niuland, Dimapur and Kohima. The remaining districts are expected to receive light to moderate rainfall which may intensify during this period. As a result, it is vital to take the necessary measures at this period, including avoiding lightning strikes and high winds, which can disrupt communication and connectivity. Due to the risk of high precipitation in the hill sector, Nagaland's lowland and foothill districts, including Dimapur, Niuland, Chumoukedima, Bhandari, Baghty, Tizit, and Tuli are vulnerable to inundated water logging and flash floods. In this regard, the low-lying districts have been requested to implement the following precautionary measures in light of the current flood situation:
- Keep valuable documents and item in safe locker to prevent loss and damage.
- Evacuate low lying areas if advised by authorities.
- Keep an eye for gas leak.
- Avoid food that may have come in contact with flood water.
- Avoid entering flood waters or driving through flooded areas.
- Disconnect and place electrical appliances off ground level.
- Boil water before drinking or use chlorinated water.
- Be alert to any open drain holes or flood channels.
NSDMA, has urged the public to exercise caution to avoid any eventualities during this period. The NSDMA, Home Department also requests all the District Disaster Management Authorities and other line departments to remain on high alert to safeguard lives and property during the monsoon season.
