On the occasion of the International Day for Older persons 2021, two senior citizens from Peren District namely: Hellam Kuki from Ahthibung town and Lhingjahat Mangjel from Songlhuh Village were honoured and felicitated with certificates and cash in recognition of their great contributions to the society during the observance held at DC's Conference Hall, Peren on 1st October, 2021. The programme was organised by the Department of Social Welfare, Peren under the theme, "Digital Equity for All Ages".
Deputy Commissioner Peren, Sentiwapang Aier, NCS in his short speech exhorted the two senior citizens with special reference to the theme of the programme "Digital Equity for All Ages". He also encouraged the gathering to set an exemplary lifestyle of healthy living to live a long life. Further, the DC extended his gratitude and appreciation to the two elders for their contributions to the society and asked them to continue the same.
District Welfare Officer Peren, Asangla Jamir while giving a brief biography of the two elders said, Hellam Kuki was born on 1st July, 1947 at Sailhem Village, Peren, Nagaland and he is also a Retd. Govt. Teacher & Ex-GB of Ahthibung Town (2004-2020). During his tenure as a Teacher, Hellam Kuki also had received the Best Teacher Award under Sub-Division level (Peren) and is also known by his honesty, kindness and sincerity in all walks of life, added Asangla Jamir.
While highlighting on Lhingjahat Mangjel Biography, Jamir said she was born at Old Jampi Village, Nagaland in the year 1936 and is now 85 years old living with her eldest son and her grandchildren in Songlhuh Village. She also highlighted some of her achievements and contributions to the Church and Village where she mentioned that since there were very few who could read and write, Lhingjahat Mangjel Sacrificed herself to attend Night School so that she could work for the betterment of the women in the society. Asangla further added, Lhingjahat Mangjel is blessed with curing eyes naturally without any formal learning and she is affectionately called as 'Eye Doctor' by the villagers.
