To ensure effective and expedited implementation of Swachh Bharat Mission-Gramin Phase II, to achieve ODF plus, awareness and capacity building was conducted by DWSM PHED Phek, at Chozuba HQ on 21st and Pfutsero town on 23rd May 2022, covering four (4) blocks- Sekrezu, Kikruma, Chizami, and Pfutsero block. The campaign was sponsored by Sanitation and WSSO PHED Kohima, Nagaland. The main target groups were the WATSANs and Swachhagrahis as they are the foot soldiers or frontline workers of the Swachh Bharat Mission at the grass-root level. District Coordinator Kutulu Vero stated that WATSAN's main role is to ensure safe drinking and sanitation at the village level, also WATSAN and Swachhagrahis appear to be the only workforce at the field level, both in SBM and Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM). Sanitation and Hygiene Consultant, Abigail Ritse spoke on ODF Plus Components- Biodegradable Waste Management (Compost pit), Fecal Sludge Management, and Plastic Waste Management, and its criteria to achieve ODF Plus as per the SBM-G Phase ll guidelines. Chemist, Kethonu Theyo emphasized Grey Water Management (ODF Plus component)-through community and individual soak pits, separation of grey and black water, usage of treated greywater for activities such as kitchen gardens, irrigation, washing vehicles, groundwater recharge, etc. He further talked about the harmful effects of contaminated water and the importance of testing water regularly. Booklets and brochures on Biodegradable waste management, Fecal sludge management, Grey Water Management, and Plastic waste management were distributed to all the participants. (DIPR)
