The 2nd day of the Phom Monyu Tribal festival was graced by H. Khehovi Sumi, Advisor Tourism, Art And Culture as the Special Guest on 6th April 2022 at local ground Longleng.
Asserting that 'our culture defines our identity,' Khehovi called upon the Phom community to promote and preserve the rich culture and traditions to protect their identity. He exhorted the people not to celebrate the festival for merrymaking alone but also to promote their identity and to educate the younger generation.
Maintaining that every Naga tribe has its diverse festival, dialect, and attires but is bound by Christianity which is the greatest gift. He said the rich culture and unique tradition are the beauty of the Nagas which also promote tourism in the state.
Welcoming all to the celebration, Chief Host Manpai Phom, ADC Tseminyu thanked the Government of Nagaland for giving due importance to the age-old custom, tradition, and culture by popularising the major festivals of all the tribes across the state and opening up opportunities to promote tourism in the state.
The festival Host B.S. Nganlang Phom, MLA pronounced the festival blessing.
Solidarity speeches were proposed by Tsapikyu Sangtam, President ENPO, and Nungsanglemba, President CKS.
The highlights of days long activities of the Monyu festival were the Beating of Log drum by Tangha Village; Culture Dance by Hukphang Nyula, Pongo Union, Jakphang Village, Yachem Union, Longleng Sadar, and Yongnyah block. Traditional Competition includes Tug of War by 12 wards of Longleng, Still Bamboo Walking, Grain Grinding, Pottery Making, Blacksmith, Handicraft, and Mat making.
Earlier, the invocation was proposed by Rev. Beau Phom, Pastor Longleng Town Baptist Church followed by Monyu Greetings by Deputy Commissioner M. Shayung Phom.
