The month long programme, “Poshan Maah”, was launched at Tening, led by District Administration and Department of Social Welfare.
CDPO Tening, Yanbeni Humtsoe highlighted on the activities to be carried out throughout the month, that includes four phases namely- Poshan Vatika, Yoga and AYUSH for physical well-being, Distribution of Nutrition Kits and identification of Severely Acute Malnutrition (SAM) and distribution of nutritious food.
EAC Tening, Tumben P. Tsanglao exhorted the Department officials, especially the Anganwadi workers to be ambassadors for spreading awareness on holistic nutrition for children and mothers. He further reminded how more than 50% of children in the country are suffering from at least one type of malnutrition and how the program can help in improving the nutrition status with an emphasis on micronutrients that are vital for a child’s mental well-being apart from other physical aspects.
The program was chaired by Block Coordinator Tening,Dibinbo and vote of thanks was proposed by Supervisor, Tening, Sheo Medeo.
Since 2018, every year, September has been celebrated as "POSHAN Maah", a part of the POSHAN Abhiyaan, to bolster the participation of people in improving holistic nutrition.
Saplings of fruit trees were distributed among participants as part of “Poshan Vatika”.
