Sanitization & awareness campaign programme on Right of Persons with disabilities (RPWD) Act, 2016 for state government officials, organized by Mission Mode Team (Accessible India Campaign) in collaboration with the office of the Commissioner for Persons with Disabilities, was held at DC’s conference hall, Phek on 16th November, 2021.
Commissioner and Secretary to the Government of Nagaland and Team Leader, Mission Mode Team (AIC), K. Libanthung Lotha, IAS gave the introduction of sensitization and awareness campaign while Advocate, Guwahati High Court Kohima Bench, Apila Santam spoke on Court Directive/ Legal Implications of Non-Compliance. RPwD Act 2016 overview, Status of Implementation and Way Forward was delivered by State Commissioner for Persons with Disabilities, Diethono Nakhro.
They said that, after verification of important public buildings in the state capital as well as in all the districts, the team had submitted recommendations to the government for sanitation and awareness campaign on the rights of people with disabilities. They also opined, the main objective behind and intention is to sensitize, educate and make an awareness to create barrier free environment for those people and create a better world.
They also stated that India being a signatory to the United Nation Convention on the rights of persons with disabilities, where they cast an obligation on all to take appropriate measures to ensure that they are treated with equal measures in all the factors, facilities, services and rights. Elimination of obstacles and to create barrier free environment measures also include information, communication and other services.
The programme was chaired by Deputy Commissioner, Phek Razouvolie Dozo. The programme was attended by HoDs, NGOs, Church leaders, GBs and well-wishers.
