Celebrating the "Bharat Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav", Public Works Dept. (R&B), Peren Division organised a District Rural Road Seminar on 15th August, 2021 at DC's Conference Hall, Peren with Advisor for Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Sciences, Women Resources Development, R. Khing as the Special Guest.

Speaking at the programme, the Special Guest stated that Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) was launched on 25th December, 2000 with the primary objective to provide Connectivity, by way of an All-weather Road (with necessary culverts and cross-drainage structures, which is operable throughout the year), to the eligible unconnected Habitations in the rural areas with a population of 500+ in plain areas, 250+ in North-Eastern and Himalayan States and 100+ in the critical Left Wing Extremism (LWE) affected blocks (as identified by MHA)as per Census,2001, so that people in the rural area have access to basic health services, education and market for their produce.

He also said, the Government of India subsequently launched new interventions/verticals namely PMGSY-II for upgradation of 50,000 km of road length, Road Connectivity Project for Left Wing Extremism Affected Areas (RCPLWEA) for construction/upgradation of strategically important roads and PMGSY-III for consolidation of 1,25,000 km of through Routes and Major Rural Links connecting habitations,  inter-alia, to Gramin Agricultural Markets (GrAMs), Higher Secondary Schools and Hospitals. The implementation period of PMGSY-III is till March, 2025.

Further, R. Khing added that in Nagaland, since the inception of the project till July 2021, a total of 4382.05 km road length has been sanctioned under PMGSY-I and against 116 eligible habitations identified for coverage under the scheme, 109 eligible and feasible habitations under the scheme and 7 (nos) under state various schemes are provided with all-weather road connectivity. 

Under PMGSY-II, a total of 227.60 km road length has been sanctioned and are at various stage of completion. Overall, 2932.83 km road length has been completed under various verticals of the Scheme as on 31/07/2021.

Additionally, 53 nos of Bridges were also sanctioned under the scheme so far. Out of which 21 bridges are completed with another 20 bridges at launching stage. 

The projects sanctioned under PMGSY-I & II shall be formally winding up by August 2022 and all the works are expected to complete by 31st of March 2022.

R. Khing in his speech also called for active cooperation and participation from the District Administration as well as stakeholder in the remaining activities which shall play a key role to the success of this year long program.

The programme was chaired by EE, PWD (R&B), Peren Division, Dr. Khuito Murumi and Technical Paper Presentation on the topics-Use of new technology in rural road construction, Implementation of PMGSY-III Scheme and Role of PMGSY in development of respective rural areas was presented by SDO, PWD(R&B), Peren Sub-Division, Er. Asembe Mbungcha.
