The Department of Legal Metrology & Consumer Protection, Nagaland has notified for information and strict compliance by all traders, dealers, retailers, wholesalers, manufactures, packers, and other persons engaged in trade and commerce in the state of Nagaland that the provisions of the Legal Metrology Act, 2009, the Legal Metrology (General) Rules, 2011, the Legal Metrology (Packaged Commodities) Rules, 2011, and other applicable Legal Metrology Laws/rules shall be strictly complied with.

All concerned traders/dealers are directed to ensure that:

1. All weights and measures/instruments used for trade and commercial transactions are duly verified and stamped by the Legal Metrology & Consumer Protection Department within the prescribed period.

2. No unverified, unstamped, defective, unclean and loam stuck or non-standard weighing or measuring instrument shall be used for any transaction or trade.

3. All transactions involving goods sold by weights, measure or number shall be carried out using prescribed and standard units and duly verified instruments.

4. All pre-packaged commodities shall comply with the mandatory declarations and requirements prescribed under the Legal Metrology (Packaged Commodities) Rules,2011, including declarations relating to net quantity, MRP, name and address of manufacture/packer/importer and other applicable particulars.

5. Traders/dealers shall maintain and produce the relevant licences, certificates, verification certificates, records and documents as required under the applicable Legal Metrology Laws and rules.

6. No traders/dealer shall engage in any practice which results in short delivery, incorrect weighing or measurement, or otherwise contravenes the provisions of the Legal Metrology laws.

7. All traders/dealers are hereby directed to strictly comply with the above provisions with immediate effect.

The Legal Metrology Officers of the department shall conduct inspections and enforcement activities throughout the state to ensure compliance. Any violation detected during inspection shall be dealt with strictly in accordance with the provisions of the Legal Metrology Acts, 2009 and the applicable Acts, and Rules, including applicable penalties/proceedings.

All traders and dealers are therefore advised to ensure full compliance and cooperate with the Legal Metrology & Consumer Protection Department during inspection and enforcement activities.
