Skill Training of Rural Youth (STRY) programme was organised by ATMA Kohima district on value addition on vegetable from 22nd August – 27th August 2022 at the Conference Hall of the DAO’s Office. The programme was conducted in association with State Agricultural Management & Extension Training Institute (SAMETI), Nagaland and National Institute of Agricultural Extension Management (MANAGE) Hyderabad.
Delivering the keynote address, Rokoshüno Angela, Deputy PD (ATMA) said the training was aimed to impart skill based training to rural unemployed youth on agri-based vocational areas. The resource person Vitsonuo Solo spoke on the topics, namely importance of PH processing of fruits and vegetables, principles of vegetable preservation, pre-harvest factors affecting PH quality and fruits and vegetables, ripening, respiration and factors affecting respiration, respiration and factor influencing respiration, harvesting and field handling, packaging materials for vegetables, methods of vegetables preservation, extent and possible causes of PH losses, drying and dehydration, canning, and marketing.
Hands-on demonstration was imparted to the trainees on bamboo shoot pickles, leek pickle, brinjal pickle, chilli pickle and ginger candy. Altogether, 28 participants attended the programme from three (3) blocks. Distribution of certificate to the trainees was also carried out on the occasion.
