An awareness programme on the impact of teen pregnancy was successfully held on 18th July 2025 at Government Higher Secondary School, Wokha. The initiative aimed to educate students from Classes 8 to 12 on the physical, emotional, social, and economic consequences of early pregnancy.

Organised by the Wokha District Administration, Department of Social Welfare, and District Hub for Empowerment of Women under the aegis of Beti Bachao Beti Padhao (Mission Shakti), the event witnessed participation from over 350 students.

Medical Officer of Primary Health Centre Chukitong, Dr. Thungdeno P. Murry, spoke on the societal impact of teen pregnancy, emphasising the importance of informed decision-making among young girls. He encouraged male participants to foster a safe and respectful environment for women and stressed that every pregnancy should be planned and wanted.

District Mission Coordinator, DHEW Wokha, Dr. Wonjano E Enny, highlighted the roles of the District Hub for Empowerment of Women, Beti Bachao Beti Padhao, and Sakhi-One Stop Centre.

Supervisor Child Helpline Wokha, Elonbeni M Odyuo, also shared information about the 1098 helpline—a 24/7 toll-free and confidential emergency service for children aged 0 to 18 years.

The programme concluded with the distribution of sanitary pads and stationery items to the participants.
