Commemorating World Environment Day, Team Dimapur led by Nodal officer Dimapur, Y.Kikheto Sema, IAS, members of Naga Council Dimapur led by its interim President, Etsungmomo Kikon and ADC Dimapur planted more than 200 decorative trees at new Naga Cemetery Dimapur, on 5th June 2021.More than 300 plants would be planted during the following days by NCD and volunteers along the stretch before reaching the cemetery. Delivering a short speech Kikheto Sema dubbed the New Naga cemetery Dimapur as the most important cemetery in Nagaland stating that most of the Covid warriors were buried in this place. As of date, 147 victims from the first wave as well as the second wave have been buried there, he informed. He recalled that during his first visit at the cemetery, there was no systematic burials as graveyards were just dug with JCBs randomly. He however expressed happiness and also thanked the Lotha Baptist Church and Lotha Youth Organization Dimapur for sponsoring readymade concrete grave pits for giving a decent burial to the Covid warriors. He thanked NCD and Lotha Youth Organization Dimapur for identifying some the corona victims buried in the cemetery but regretted that still more than 50 plus are yet to be identified and urged upon the family and relatives for identifying their loved ones so that their names could be placed accordingly. He also appealed to the NCD not to collect money from the family of corona victims stating that many people are willing to come forward for sponsoring/donation. He further informed that Team Dimapur would also be able to provide the necessary requirements. Kikheto thanked the Horticulture and Forest department for providing the saplings and also requested them for coordinating with NCD even in the near future for maintenance of the plants. The Nodal officer hoped that the Cemetery will be a place of "life and light" for visitors with the beautification of the place with trees providing shade and scenery. On being briefed about the worsening of road leading to the cemetery by the Interim President NCD, Sema said that the latter has been put up to the higher authority and expressed hope that the issue would be considered on priority. Interim President NCD thanked Team Dimapur specially Y.Kikheto for leading the fight against the pandemic in the district and also visiting the cemetery several times and for also giving valuable suggestions.
