KOHIMA:

The District Tobacco Control Cell (DTCC) Kohima in collaboration with the Tobacco Free Educational Institutions under Kohima District celebrated World No Tobacco Day on 31st May 2020 by maintaining social distancing. The day was celebrated with the theme "preventing youth from industry manipulation and preventing them from tobacco and nicotine use"

State Nodal Officer NTCP, Dr. C. Tetseo’s message on the World No Tobacco Day stated that the tobacco industry has employed all the possible tactics for decades to attract new generations of tobacco users to replace millions of people dying every year. Stating that this year the WHO has chosen the theme which exposes this lie and also seek to empower the youth with knowledge and engage them in the fight against the big tobacco. He was glad that tobacco free schools in Kohima have actively participated in this fight in spite of the difficult time. He also appreciated the DTCC for compiling the message into a documentary so as to spread the awareness. He hoped that it will encourage the students to involve in anti-tobacco campaigns in future and further wished everyone a very successful World No Tobacco Day.

The participating Educational Institutions included students from Vineyard School, Genesis School, G. Rio school, Baptist School Botsa, Govt. Primary School CWSN Lerie, Vikesel's Vision School, Govt. Middle School Botsa, Dainty Buds, Fernwood School, Govt. Middle School Lerie Chazou Aradhura, Regimental School 4th NAP Thizama, Trinity School, Azedon School, Govt. Middle School Dzüvürü Poterlane, Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya, Little Flower Higher Secondary School, Holy Family Hr. Sec. School, Bethel Hr. Sec. School, Khedi Baptist Hr. Sec. School, Minister Hill Baptist Hr. Sec. School, Mt. Hermon Hr. Sec. School, Model Hr. Sec. School, Mt. Sinai Hr. Sec. School, Modern Institute of Teachers Education and colleges included Mt. Olive College, KROS College, Capital College, Baptist College and Oriental College. 

Some of the slogan reads "Tobacco Industries cannot manipulate my personal choice", "Be smart don't start", "Be smart don't fall into the trap", "Stop cremating yourself", "Quit tobacco choose health choose life", "Tobacco companies kills their best customers", "If you can't quit tobacco! Cancer will".

DIMAPUR:

World No Tobacco Day is observed around the world every year on 31st May. This year, the theme for world No Tobacco Day 2020 is, “protecting the youth from industry manipulation and preventing them from tobacco and nicotine use”.

On this occasion, District Tobacco Control cell Dimapur carried out IEC (Information Education Communication) activities and released a short video to raise awareness on the urgent need to intervene and protect the vulnerable children from falling prey to Tobacco industry tactics. The Department has requested all stake holders and policy makers to strengthen the Tobacco control laws in the state.

LONGLENG:

In Longleng the World No Tobacco Day was held with Deputy Commissioner Longleng M. Shayung Phom as the special guest on 31st May 2020 at DC's office complex under the theme: "Protecting youth from industry manipulation and preventing them from tobacco and nicotine use".

Speaking on the day the Deputy Commissioner Longleng called upon the NGOs and civil societies of the district to come forward with innovative ideas and valuable suggestions to ban use of tobacco in the district and asserted that without the cooperation and support of the NGOs and civil societies the district administration and Police alone cannot combat against tobacco.

Asserting that humans have certain instinct and eagerness to try and test prohibited substance like tobacco which gradually becomes addiction he said use of tobacco is not only injurious to health but also an unhygienic practice and it's high time to say no to tobacco especially during COVID-19 pandemic. 

Stressing on bad effects of tobacco Shayung appealed to the gathering to be an agent of change by dissemination the information to thier family and community.

Welcome address was done by Dr. Obangjungla, Chief Medical Officer, Longleng. Speech on 'World No Tobacco Day' was given by Dr. Bongau Phom, Jr. Dental Surgeon, district hospital Longleng. The program was chaired by Dr. Lingshau James, Medical Officer, PHC Yachem and culminated with vote of thanks by Dr. Philip Kent Deputy Chief Medical Officer, Longleng.
