The WATSU unit (Women organisation) Mangkolemba, Mokokchung in coordination with the District Administration and Police personnel, carried out a surprise inspection targeting the illegal sale of liquor in shops and hotels across the town as part of the enforcement of the NLTP Act on 16th July 2025.
The inspection revealed several businesses openly violating the Nagaland Liquor Total Prohibition (NLTP) Act by selling liquor. As a result, alcoholic beverages valued at Rs 40,000 were confiscated and destroyed. The authorities have issued stern warnings to the violators, cautioning that repeated offenses could lead to shop closures and license cancellations.
This enforcement drive is particularly significant given the town’s close proximity to Assam, where easy access to liquor has contributed to its widespread sale and consumption, affecting the residents of Mangkolemba town.
WATSU has been instrumental in supporting the district administration in addressing such issues, consistently working to curb social evils and promote peace and order within the community.
