The inaugural programme of the two day Indian Engineers’ Federation (INDEF) North Eastern Region (NER) mid-term cum annual council meeting hosted and organised by Federation of Nagaland State Engineering Service Associations (FONSESA) was held at Hotel Japfu, Kohima on 22nd July 2022 with Minister for Rural Development, Metsubo Jamir as the special guest.
Metsubo Jamir, speaking at the inaugural programme said that in this modern world, it is impossible to imagine a life without the machineries, systems and gadgets that has become a part and parcel of our daily lives which we take for granted but all these would not have existed had it not been for the engineers who designed and produced them. He further emphasised on the immense potential of the North East with plenty of natural resources accounting for 34 per cent of the country’s water resources and almost 40 per cent of India’s hydro power potential and the role of the engineers in ensuring that these projects become a reality bringing about development and sustainability to the region. Jamir concluded by saying that with the rapid progress in technological advances, the present day engineers must also ensure the protection of the environment and nature which has been of late rapidly degenerating in our modern day quest for progress and development.
The key-note address was delivered by President INDEF (NER), Er. Pura Tupe, wherein he highlighted some of the issues related to the engineering services such as pay disparity when compared with other services like the Indian Civil Services, the need for a proper rotational transfer and posting policy to ensure effective functioning and also the need to have an Engineering Commission to address the issues and service matters of the Engineers. He further thankedFONSESA for organising and hosting the event and hoped that the two day event will have progressive outcomes and also strengthen the bond between the North Eastern States and that the region will progress as one.
President, FONSESA, Er. K. Hutoi Sema delivered the welcome address while Er. Secretary General, FONSESA, Mezivil Kikhi, pronounced the vote of thanks.
